After five years as Music Director of Copenhagen Phil, Peter Lodahl is stepping down to prioritize his own singing career. The new chief conductor from the 2024/2025 season will be German Christoph Gedschold, chief conductor of the Leipzig Opera.
During his piano and conducting studies in Leipzig and Hamburg, the conductor and pianist Christoph Gedschold performed as part of the International Opera Studio in Zurich.
In 2002 he became Kapellmeister and répétiteur at the Lucerne Theater. In 2009 he was appointed first Kapellmeister at the Karlsruhe State Theater.
Peter Lodahl says: « I miss more time to be a performing artist myself. As a singer, I am currently facing some very exciting new tasks with a more dramatic voice than the lyrical roles I have been singing for years, especially in German opera houses. If everything works out, I can look forward to perhaps the best decade of my career as a singer. But if I’m going to pursue the opportunity to try my hand at another voice profession, it won’t be in five or ten years. It’s now. I am proud of my efforts at Copenhagen Phil and proud to be able to deliver a symphony orchestra in top artistic shape after an extensive turnaround process ».
