Italian soprano Daniela Dessi died at only 59 years in Brescia on Saturday, 20 August. Her husband, tenor Fabio Armiliato, announced her death yesterday. »A short illness, terrible and incomprehensible to me has taken her away. »
Daniela Dessi has died after a short battle with cancer. She was forced recently to cancel her performances of Medea at the Macerata Festival, and other summer engagements, which she announced on Facebook in late July: « Dear friends, unfortunately after a health problem I’ve been forced to cancel all my events for this summer. I’ll see you on October 8th for a big scared concert in the Basilica in Loreto. A big hug to everybody. »
Bon in 1957 in Genoa, she graduated in singing and in piano from the Conservatory Arrigo Boito in Parma, later specializing in chamber singing at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. Since her debut in La Serva Padrona by Pergolesi in Genoa, her career started taking wing. Requested in the world major opera houses and festivals, she has collaborated with the greatest conductors.
