The Opera de Nice in Southern France has named Italian conductor Daniele Callegari (*1960) Music Director. He will have at his side Lionel Bringuer from Nice who will be more involved in the activity of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra.
Daniele Callegari, 61, was born in Milan, where he studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory. He was a member of the Orchestra of La Scala in Milan for more than ten years, before becoming a conductor and quickly beginning an international career.
From 1998 to 2001 he was Principal Conductor at the Wexford Festival and from 2002 to 2008 at the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders.
He will take over for György Ráth who held the position for the past three years.
