Italian conductor Daniele Gatti, 59, was named Music Director of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, intendant Alexander Pereira announced. Gatti will succeed Zubin Mehta who will continue with the Maggio Musicale as Music Director Emeritus.
Gatti was previously the Music Director of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma where Michele Mariotti will take over his post. Before he was also Music Director of Amsterdam’s Concertgebouworkest. In 2018, the orchestra terminated his appointment with immediate effect, citing accusations of « inappropriate behavior », and that « a number of female colleagues of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra reported experiences with Gatti, which are inappropriate considering his position as chief conductor. »
