Zwei 1915 in Madrid uraufgeführte Werke von Manuel de Falla sind auf dieser CD zu hören, El Amor Brujo und die von Francisco Dominguez orchestrierten Canciones Populares.
Das Besondere an der Einspielung von El Amor Brujo ist, dass die Bilbao Sinfonietta die erste Fassung der Komposition spielt, die viel kontrastreicher, schärfer, farbiger und frischer, so sogar etwa rau klingt und das Zigeunerhafte der Musik unmittelbarer zur Wirkung bringt. Das liegt hier aber gewiss auch an der faszinierenden Interpretation der packend leidenschaftlich und ursprünglich sensuell gestaltenden Maria Toledo und dem lebhaften und intensiven Spiel des Orchesters.
In Siete Canciones Populares Espanolas ersetzt die wirklich fantasievolle und passende Orchestrierung von Francisco Domínguez die ursprüngliche Klavierbegleitung. Es ist nicht das erste Mal, dass eine Folk-Sängerin diese Lieder singt und ihnen neue Farben verleiht. Der Flamenco-Sängerin Maria Toledo ist es jedoch besonders gut gelungen, das Ursprüngliche der Lieder wiederzugeben und ihnen so im Gesangsspart einen authentischen Charakter zu geben.
Two works by Manuel de Falla premiered in Madrid in 1915 can be heard on this CD, El Amor Brujo and the Canciones Populares orchestrated by Francisco Dominguez.
What is special about the recording of El Amor Brujo is that the Bilbao Sinfonietta plays the first version of the composition, which is much richer in contrast, sharper, more colorful and fresher, so that it even sounds a bit coarse and brings the gypsy-like quality of the music more directly to bear. This is certainly also due to the fascinating interpretation of Maria Toledo, who is grippingly passionate as well as really sensual, and the lively and intense playing of the orchestra.
In Siete Canciones Populares Espanolas, Francisco Domínguez’s truly imaginative and fitting orchestration replaces the original piano accompaniment. It is not the first time that a folk singer sings these songs and gives them new colors. However, the flamenco singer Maria Toledo has succeeded particularly well in reproducing the originality of the songs, giving them an authentic character.
