British baritone and philanthropist Ralph Kohn has died. He was born in 1927 in Leipzig, Germany and left with his family as a result of the Nazi persecution in the 1930s. As pharmacologist he joined the pharmaceutical industry and founded own company in 1969. A trained baritone, he has given numerous recitals and performances with orchestras in the UK and abroad. Ralph Kohn’s 16 recordings comprise opera, Bach cantatas and Lieder (in partnership with accompanist Graham Johnson).
Ralph Kohn set up The Kohn Foundation in 1991 to support work in scientific and medical research, in innovation, the arts and humanitarian aid. The foundation endows several prizes for young scientists and musicians.
