Fabio Biondi und seine Streicher haben sich einiger Jugendwerke Mendelssohns angenommen und machen eindeutig mehr daraus als leichtfertige Schülerarbeiten. Manches frische Tempo, manche herausgeholte Mittelstimme zeugen dafür. Doch nicht nur mit überschäumendem Temperament, straffem Rhythmus und plastischem Vortrag kann das exzellente Orchester überzeugen: auch die Schwermütigkeit der Grave-Sätze trifft Biondi sehr gut. Vor allem aber gefällt der satte federnder Sound, den Europa Galante produziert: das ist kein mickrig dünn fließender Streicherklang, den wir hier hören, sondern feinfühlig und expressiv dargebotene, gut gedüngte Musik mit einem soliden Bassfundament.
In diesem Programm wird mit dem von Monica Piccinini feinfühlig gesungenen Salve Regina des 15-jährigen Mendelssohn eine zusätzliche Farbe eingebracht.
Fabio Biondi and his strings have taken on some of Mendelssohn’s youthful works and clearly make more of them than frivolous student works. Some fresh tempo, some emphasized middle line testify to that. But it is not only with exuberant temperament, tight rhythm and vivid performance that the excellent orchestra can convince: Biondi also captures the melancholy of the Grave movements very well. Above all, however, the rich, flexible sound produced by Europa Galante is pleasing: this is no puny, thin-flowing string sound, but sensitively and expressively presented, well-fertilized music with a solid bass foundation.
Additional color is brought to this program with the 15-year-old Mendelssohn’s Salve Regina, sensitively sung by Monica Piccinini.
