The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has announced programming for its 2014-15 Orchestra Hall Classical, Pops, and Young People’s Family Subscription Series. The DSO and Music Director Leonard Slatkin, entering the seventh season of a partnership are celebrating the concerto in America with a season featuring concerti written by American composers and those which received their World Premiere within American borders.
Inspired by 2013’s incredibly successful February Beethoven Festival, next season will see the first annual Winter Music Festival, honoring the Russian master Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky for his 175th birthday, culminating in a digital box set recording of the complete symphonies produced by the DSO’s in-house label. The DSO’s three-disc project on the Naxos label recording all of Copland’s complete ballets will conclude next season with Billy the Kid and Grohg.
A complete series of Live From Orchestra Hall webcasts will return next season.
