Diese CD hat absolut nichts mit Jazz-Musik zu tun. Der Titel geht auf eine Reihe von Arbeiten des Maler Henri Matisse zurück, die dieser 1949 unter dem Titel Jazz herausbrachte. Der Komponist Sergej Akhounov (*1967) war, als er sie 2019 bei einer Ausstellung in Moskau entdeckte, so begeistert davon, dass er beschloss, einen Zyklus von Miniaturen darüber zu komponieren. Jazz besteht aus 15 dieser kleinen Musikstücke, die zwischen 2 und 5 Minuten dauern. Die Musik ist phantastisch, kompakt, vielseitig, modern, emotionsgeladen. Akhounov gelingt es, die Musik und die Aussagekraft auf ein Wesentliches zu reduzieren und zu komprimieren, so dass jede Note eine enorme Wichtigkeit und Präsenz besitzt. Der aufgeschlossene Hörer erlebt somit 40 Minuten tolle Musik, die ihn bei jedem Stück in eine andere Welt katapultiert.
Ergänzt und abgerundet wird diese zentrale Komposition von der Violinsonate von Francis Poulenc und Louange à l’Eternité de Jésus aus dem Quatuor pour la fin du temps von Olivier Messiaen.
Die Musik wird von zwei exzellenten Musikern getragen, von der Violinistin Julia Igonia, die mit einem phänomenalen Spiel begeistert und sich nahtlos zwischen emotionsgeladenen Ausbrüchen und moderner Struktur hin und her bewegen kann. Ihr Partner am Klavier ist Maxim Emelyanychev, der sich schon als absolut genialer Dirigent bewiesen hat und auch am Klavier allerbeste Arbeit leistet. Demnach ist dies eine außergewöhnliche CD, die ohne Wenn und Aber empfohlen werden kann.
This CD has absolutely nothing to do with jazz music. The title goes back to a series of works by the painter Henri Matisse, which he published in 1949 under the title Jazz. Composer Sergei Akhounov (b. 1967) was so excited when he discovered them at an exhibition in Moscow in 2019 that he decided to compose a cycle of miniatures about them. Jazz consists of 15 of these small pieces of music, lasting between 2 and 5 minutes. The music is fantastic, compact, versatile, modern, full of emotions. Akhounov succeeds in reducing and compressing the music and its expressiveness to an essential, so that each note has an enormous importance and presence. The open-minded listener thus experiences 40 minutes of great music that catapults him into another world with each piece.
Complementing and rounding out this central composition are the Violin Sonata by Francis Poulenc and Louange à l’Eternité de Jésus from the Quatuor pour la fin du temps by Olivier Messiaen.
The music is carried by two excellent musicians, violinist Julia Igonia, who inspires with phenomenal playing, moving seamlessly between emotionally charged outbursts and modern structure. Her partner at the piano is Maxim Emelyanychev, who has already proven himself to be an absolutely brilliant conductor and also does the very best work at the piano. Accordingly, this is an exceptional CD that can be recommended without ifs and buts.
