Jean-Philippe Collard gilt als Fauré-Spezialist und hat dessen 13 Barcarolles schon vor 50 Jahren auf seiner ersten Schallplatte eingespielt. Auch eine Einspielung der Ballade op. 19 liegt bereits 37 Jahre zurück. Was in dieser neuen Produktion von 2020 sofort auffällt, ist das komplett entspannte Spiel, mit dem der französische Pianist die Werke angeht. Da ist ein Musiker am Werk, der hörbar gereift ist und der sich Zeit für das Essentielle in der Musik nimmt, ohne Show-Effekte, ohne plakative Spielereien. Wer sich als Hörer darauf einlässt, wird in eine fantastische Welt der Leichtigkeit und der schönen Farben mitgenommen und entdeckt einen Komponisten, der ungerechterweise nie in der ersten Reihe stand und steht. Seine Barcarolles zeugen von größtem kompositorischem Können und einer raffinierten Schreibweise. Dank Collards Reife, seinem untrüglichen Gefühl für das Wesentliche und seinem bewussten spielerischem Zurücknehmen können die 13 sehr unterschiedlichen Barcarolles ihren Charakter auf eine immer wieder individuelle Art entwickeln. Somit erschafft er einen wunderbaren Musikkosmos, der letztendlich dazu führt, dass wir uns Faurés Genialität wieder ins Bewusstsein rufen.
Sehr ausgewogen ist auch die Interpretation der recht schwierigen Ballade op. 19, wobei Collard es versteht, ein sehr natürliches Gleichgewicht und somit eine konzeptuelle, quasi narrative Ausgewogenheit zu erreichen. Eine Meisterleistung.
Jean-Philippe Collard is considered a Fauré specialist and recorded his 13 Barcarolles already 50 years ago as his first record. A recording of the Ballade op. 19 also dates back 37 years. What is immediately striking in this new 2020 production is the completely relaxed playing with which the French pianist approaches the works. There is a musician at work who has audibly matured and who takes time for the essential in the music, without show effects, without striking gimmicks. Whoever gets involved as a listener is taken into a fantastic world of lightness and beautiful colors and discovers a composer who unjustly never was and still is in the first row. His barcarolles are evidence of the greatest compositional skill and a refined writing style. Thanks to Collard’s maturity, his unerring feeling for the essential and his deliberate playful restraint, the 13 very different barcarolles are able to develop their character in an always individual way. Thus he creates a wonderful musical cosmos, which ultimately leads us to recall Fauré’s genius.
The interpretation of the rather difficult Ballade op. 19 is also very balanced, with Collard knowing how to achieve a very natural balance and thus a conceptual, quasi-narrative balance. Masterful!
