Der norwegische Jazzsaxophonist Marius Neset (*1985) komponiert nicht nur für Jazzformationen, sondern auch für Symphonieorchester. Und was dabei herauskommt, ist attraktiv. Er hat zweifellos eine sprühende Erfindungsgabe, er weiß das Orchester zum Klingen zu bringen, seine Musik könnte man teilweise als Filmmusik bezeichnen, jazzig ist sie manchmal in den Soli der Stücke für Orchester und Saxophon.
Sein Saxophonkonzert Manmade aus dem Jahre 2019 hat große menschliche Erfindungen zum Thema und ist ein faszinierender Mix von Themen, Stilen, Kulturen, Rhythmen und Farben, ja etwas sehr Originelles, das man sich ebenso gerne anhört wie die übrigen drei Kompositionen dieser SACD. Die üppige Musik wird vom Komponisten selber als brillant virtuoser Solist am Saxophon und auch vom Bergen Philharmonic hervorragend interpretiert.
Norwegian jazz saxophonist Marius Neset (*1985) composes not only for jazz formations, but also for symphony orchestras. And his music is undeniably attractive. He has a sparkling inventiveness, he knows how to make the orchestra sound, some of his music could be called film music, it is sometimes jazzy in the solos of the pieces for orchestra and saxophone.
His 2019 saxophone concerto Manmade deals with great human inventions and is a fascinating mix of themes, styles, cultures, rhythms and colors, indeed something very original that is as enjoyable to listen to as the other three compositions on this SACD. The lush music is superbly interpreted by the composer himself as a brilliantly virtuosic soloist on saxophone and also by the Bergen Philharmonic.
