Der weltweit gefeierte armenische Bariton Gevorg Hakobyan legt eine CD mit einigen bekannten und etlichen weniger bekannten, aber nicht weniger interessanten Arien vor, darunter auch solche von armenischen Komponisten. Das ergibt ein spannendes Programm, das sich für die dramatische Stimme von Hakobyan bestens eignet. Es gibt auf dieser CD keinen Titel, wo ich sagen würde, dass Habokyans Stimme nicht hundertprozentig passt, auch wenn er ganz besonders als Verdi-Bariton imponiert.
Die leicht kernige, dunkel gefärbte, aber schlanke, nach oben hin auch heller und vor allem angenehm elastisch werdende Stimme ist bewundernswert ausgeglichen und nuancenreich in ihrem Ausdrucksreichtum. Und so sehr ich die Arien aus dem russischen und dem armenischen Repertoire schätze, so gerne hätte Hakobyan als Germont und als Scarpia gehört… Dennoch: diese ist eine faszinierende CD eines faszinierenden Sängers.
The world-celebrated Armenian baritone Gevorg Hakobyan presents a CD with some well-known and quite a few lesser-known but no less interesting arias, including those by Armenian composers. This makes for an exciting program that is well suited to Hakobyan’s dramatic voice. There is not a aria on this CD where I would say that Habokyan’s voice does not fit one hundred percent, even though he is particularly impressive as a Verdi baritone. The slightly pithy, dark-toned but slender voice, which also becomes lighter towards the top and above all pleasantly elastic, is admirably balanced and nuanced in its richness of expression. And as much as I appreciate the arias from the Russian and the Armenian repertoire, I would have liked to hear Hakobyan as Germont and as Scarpia… Nevertheless: this is a fascinating CD of a fascinating singer.
