Die drei sehr schönen und oft tief berührenden Liederzyklen von Richard Danielpour (*1956), die auf dem Programm dieses Albums stehen, benutzen drei verschiedene Sprachen. Songs of Love and Loss ist in Farsi und vertont die Poesie von Rumi; Canti Della Natura, in italienischer Sprache, greift Sonette auf, die Vivaldi in Le Quattro Stagioni zugeschrieben werden, während Songs of My Father englische Gedichte von Danielpours Vater Sayid benutzt.

Gesungen werden die Lieder von der amerikanischen Sopranistin Hila Plitmann, der zwei der Zyklen gewidmet sind. Sie wird von einem Kammerensemble und vom Iranshahr Orchestra begleitet, einem in Los Angeles beheimateten Orchester, das iranische und westliche Instrumente benutzt und sowohl iranische als auch westliche Musik spielt.

Auffallend ist, dass Danielpour für den Zyklus persischer Lieder nicht auf iranisch imprägnierte Klänge zurückgreift. Der Zyklus ist für Streichorchester und Sopran komponiert und meistens sehr lyrisch und poetisch, um die wunderbare Qualität der über 800 Jahre alten Texte des persischen Dichters Rumi zu betonen.

Canti Della Natura stellt ein Klavier und ein Cello neben die Stimme, und Danielpour gibt beiden Instrumenten eine sehr lautmalerische Funktion, um die Vivaldi zugeschriebenen Texte evokativ zu vertonen.

Die drei sehr zarten und lyrischen Songs of My Father sind für Sopran, Viola und Harfe komponiert.

Hila Plitmann singt alle Lieder sehr einfühlsam und ausdrucksvoll mit ihrer strahlend reinen und hell leuchtenden Sopranstimme. Die begleitenden Instrumentalisten sind allesamt erstklassig.

Das Bocklet enthält erklärende Texte des Komponisten sowie alle gesungenen Texte.

The three very beautiful and often deeply moving song cycles by Richard Danielpour (*1956) on this album are sung in three different languages. Songs of Love and Loss is in Farsi and sets to music the poetry of Rumi; Canti Della Natura, in Italian, takes up sonnets attributed to Vivaldi in The Four Seasons, while Songs of My Father uses English poems by Danielpour’s father, Sayid.

The songs are sung by American soprano Hila Plitmann, to whom two of the cycles are dedicated. She is accompanied by a chamber ensemble and the Iranshahr Orchestra, an orchestra based in Los Angeles that uses Iranian and Western instruments and plays both Iranian and Western music.

Conspicuously, Danielpour does not use Iranian-influenced sounds for the cycle of Persian songs. The cycle is composed for string orchestra and soprano, and is mostly very lyrical and poetic, in order to emphasize the wonderful quality of the more than 800-year-old texts of the Persian poet Rumi.

In Canti Della Natura, the voice is accompanied by a piano and a cello, and Danielpour gives both instruments a very onomatopoeic function to evoke the texts attributed to Vivaldi.

The three very tender and lyrical Songs of My Father are scored for soprano, viola and harp.

Hila Plitmann sings all the songs very sensitively and expressively with her radiantly pure and bright soprano voice. The accompanying instrumentalists are all first-rate.

The booklet contains explanatory texts by the composer as well as all the sung texts.
