The Moscow city department of culture announced that Kirill Serebrennikov’s contract as the director of the Gogol Center will not be renewed. His contract will come to an end on Feb. 28.
After too much success for productions critical towards the Putin regime, Serebrennikov was charged with embezzlement of state funds in 2017. The filthy « trial” was largely perceived as political and ended with guilty charges and fines, but probation rather than incarnation. Now, Serebrennikov is sidelined and in a way also silenced.
