Swiss-Australian conductor Elena Schwarz who was born in 1985 in Lugano, has been appointed assistant conductor of the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra for the year 2017. She succeeds Marzena Diakun and was selected after a competition with more than 150 candidates from all over the world. She studied with Arturo Tamayo at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana and Laurent Gay at the Geneva University of Music, and benefitted from further training with Peter Eötvös, Neeme Järvi, Leonid Grin, Jesús López-Cobos, Christopher Seaman and Johannes Schlaefli.
She is the winner of the 2014 Princess Astrid Conducting Competition with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and also the recipient of the Fondation Leenaards scholarship, one of Switzerland’s leading distinctions for young artists.
