French conductor Emmanuel Krivine, 73, has surprisingly announced his resignation as Music Director of the French National Orchestra (ONF). He was in this position since 2016 and due to step down at the end of the 2020-2021 season.
In a press release sent to AFP, the conductor invoked « personal reasons » to justify his departure. « After having shared so many beautiful moments of music and humanity with the Orchestre National de France and our loyal audience during our concerts (around 70), I have decided, however, for personal reasons, to end my activities at Radio France, » said Emmanuel Krivine.
His successor, the Romanian Cristian Macelaru is due to take up his post from the 2021-2022 season.
