Vienna-based Austrian-Armenian violinist and conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian (*1995) has been named the new Music Director of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano.
Emmanuel Tjeknavorian comes from a family of Armenian musicians. He received his first violin lessons at the age of five in Armenia, where he also attended elementary school. He returned to Austria at the age of ten and became a student of Gerhard Schulz at the Vienna University of Music in 2011. In 2014, he began studying conducting with his father, Loris Tjeknavorian, and attended master classes for young conductors in England and Italy.
