The English conductor and pianist Steuart Bedford died at the age of 81 on Monday, February. Born in London on July 31, 1939 he was a specialist f British music and especially of the works by Benjamin Britten, of which record many compositions.
Bedford also premiered and conducted the world premiere of Death in Venice, the composer’s last opera, in 1973. He was also associated with the Aldeburgh Festival, where he was artistic director from 1974 to 1998.
