Texas-born conductor Eric Garcia, 39, has been named music director of the Boise Philharmonic, the orchestra announced on Monday. He is the winner of a search which involved seven candidates. Garcia replaces Robert Franz, who stepped down in 2016.
Garcia graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, and earned his master’s degree in conducting from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Eric Garcia currently serves as Director of Orchestral Studies and Associate Professor of Conducting at Oklahoma State University. He concurrently serves as Interim Conductor of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra. Prior to joining OSU, he served as Assistant Conductor of the Seattle Symphony. Garcia has served as cover conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
