Der vorliegende Live-Mitschnitt von Ariadne auf Naxos entstand im Oktober 2014 an der Wiener Staatsoper und war zuvor schon auf DVD erhältlich.Musikalisch wird Erstklassiges geboten. Christian Thielemann gelingt es, die Strauss-Partitur auf schönste Weise auszuleuchten und sie hier mit größter Zartheit und Sensibilität, dort mit opulenter Klanglust wiederzugeben.

Sängerisch überzeugt in erster Linie Soile Isokoski in der Titelrolle mit ihrer ungemein warmen und reichen Stimme. Brillant ist ebenfalls Sophie Koch als  Komponist, exzellent auch Daniela Fally als Zerbinetta. Peter Matic findet den richtigen, also etwas arroganten Ton als Haushofmeister. Johan Botha gestaltet die Partie des Bacchus sehr intelligent, und alle weiteren Rollen, selbst die kleinsten, sind hochkarätig besetzt.

Musically the performance is top-notch. Christian Thielemann succeeds in shaping the Strauss score in the most beautiful way, rendering it here with the greatest delicacy and sensitivity, there with opulent sonority.
Among the singers Soile Isokoski is totally convincing in the title role with her immensely warm and rich voice. Sophie Koch is also brilliant as the Composer, and Daniela Fally is excellent as Zerbinetta. Peter Matic finds the right, so somewhat arrogant tone as majordomo. Johan Botha shapes the part of Bacchus very intelligently, and all other roles, even the smallest ones, are well cast.
