An guten bis hervorragenden Aufnahmen von Johann Sebastian Bachs Cellosuiten herrscht wirklich kein Mangel. Auch Raphaël Chrétiens Interpretation besitzt ein beachtliches Niveau und kann durchaus mit den besten konkurrieren. Sein Spiel ist zügig und kompakt, trotzdem besitzt Bachs Musik genug Luft, um sich zu entwickeln.
Die Dynamik entwickelt sich wie von selbst und Chrétiens Konzept geht bei jeder Suite voll auf. Trotz z.T. schneller Tempi wird nichts übereilt, jede Note ist klar und die Balance bleibt in jedem Moment gewahrt.
Eine gute Aufnahmetechnik trägt wesentlich zum Genuss dieser hörenswerten Aufnahme bei. Nur das vierseitige Bocklet ist der einzige Hinweis darauf, dass es sich hier nicht um eine teure Produktion handelt. Trotzdem haben der Interpret und die Aufnahmetechnik alles richtig gemacht.
There is really no shortage of good to excellent recordings of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suites. Raphaël Chrétien’s interpretation is also of a remarkable level and can definitely compete with the best. His playing is brisk and compact, yet Bach’s music has enough space to develop.
The dynamics progress as if by themselves and Chrétien’s concept is fully effective in each suite. Despite sometimes fast tempi, nothing is rushed, every note is clear and the balance is maintained at every moment.
Good recording technique contributes greatly to the enjoyment of this recording, which is well worth hearing. The four-page bocklet is the only indication that this is not an expensive production. Nevertheless, the performer and the recording technique have done everything right.
