Der Brite Thomas Pitfield (1903-1999) komponierte einfallsreiche Musik, wie dieses Album mit Kammermusik für Streicher zeigt. Die diversen Stücke zeichnen sich oft durch fantasievolle Melodien, viel rhythmische Vitalität oder auch Melancholie aus. Es macht wirklich Spaß, diese Kompositionen zu hören, weil sie oft unerwartete Entwicklungen enthalten und so dem Hören Auftrieb geben.
Das Pleyel Ensemble spielt frisch und lebendig, aber die Intonation des von Pitchfield stark geforderten Cellos ist manchmal grenzwertig. Positiv ist, dass die Interpreten der Musik ihren typischen englischen Charakter belassen, so dass das Album für jeder Kammermusikfreund, der gerne auf Entdeckungsreise geht, entdeckenswert ist.
The British composer Thomas Pitfield (1903-1999) composed imaginative music, as this album of chamber music for strings shows. The various pieces are often characterized by imaginative melodies, a lot of rhythmic vitality or melancholy. It is a real pleasure to listen to these compositions, because they often contain unexpected developments and thus give the listener a boost.
The Pleyel Ensemble’s playing is fresh and lively, but the cello’s intonation, which Pitchfield insists on, is sometimes borderline. On the positive side, the performers leave the music with its typically English character, so that the album is worth discovering for any lover of chamber music who likes to go on a journey of discovery.
