Belgian cartoonist Hergé’s Castafiore, the Milanese Nightingale, Tintin and Captain Haddock appear for the first time on an opera stage in la Hulpe, near Brussels, from 17 to 26 September. The new comic opera is staged by the Belgian association Opéra pour tous. Tintin is sung by young Picci Amani, 13, while Belgian soprano Hélène Bernardy takes the role of Castafiore. The lyrics, drawn from the original cartoon will be sung on opera melodies by Gounod, Rossini, Verdi and Offenbach. Haddock, known to be disgusted from Castafiore’s singing, will just be a spoken role, to be taken by actor Michel de Warzee.
