Die 17 Walzer von Frédéric Chopin können auf Dauer etwas ermüden, es sei denn der Pianist kann die Musik genügend beleben. Und genau das vermag Tristan Pfaff in dieser Aufnahme. Und das kommt sicher nicht durch seine schnellen Tempi und die daraus resultierende Virtuosität, sondern es ist vor allem die Spontaneität, mit der Pfaff spielt. Der Pianist sprüht vor Fantasie, aber er macht aus Chopins Walzern keine Showstücke, sondern belässt ihnen mit viel Leichtigkeit und passendem Rubato ihren Charme und ihre Geheimnisse verlieren.
Die Aufnahme ist klar, aber es fehlt ihr etwas an Relief, vor allem im unteren Register.
The 17 waltzes by Frédéric Chopin can get a bit tiring in the long run, unless the pianist can sufficiently enliven the music. And that is exactly what Tristan Pfaff does in this recording. And that certainly doesn’t come from his fast tempos and resulting virtuosity, but rather it is primarily the spontaneity with which Pfaff plays. The pianist sparkles with imagination, but he doesn’t turn Chopin’s waltzes into showpieces, instead allowing them to lose their charm and mystery with a great deal of ease and fitting rubato.
The recorded sound is clear, yet lacks some relief, especially in the lower register.
