French trumpet player died yesterday at the age of 75. First prize in trumpet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, graduate in physical education and psychology, Pierre Dutot started his career as soloist at the National Orchestra of Lyon. He played in humerous ensembles and performed as soloist throughout Europe. Yet, his most important activity was teaching. He was a professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon for 22 years, and one of the most sought-after teachers in the French brass school, as his students have won numerous national and international competitions. Among them, Pascal Clarhaut, David Guerrier (first prize at the Munich International Competition in 2003), André Henry (first prize at the Geneva International Competition in 1996), etc. His renowned teaching methods attracted many students. Maurice André sent young international talents to perfect their skills in his class: « I congratulate this great teaching artist and strongly encourage him to continue his work which honors the French brass school ».
Pierre Dutot has participated in the recording of more than 80 CDs.
