Brillant und spannend gespielt: Peter Donohoes Mendelssohn-Reihe beginnt großartig. Gleich das Rondo Capriccioso ist ein fulminantes pianistisches Feuerwerk, voll Spannung, Klangreichtum und Energie. Auch die Fantasien zeugen von Donohoes Inspiration und Imagination. Dass der Brite aber auch poetisch spielen kann, bestätigen etliche der Lieder ohne Worte.
In dieser rundum gelungenen Produktion, die auch durch das warme und reiche Klangbild besticht, machen Donohoes Kunst der Differenzierung, sein sensibler, nuancierter und immer hellwacher Anschlag, seine überragende Technik und Phrasierungskunst jede der kleinen Kompositionen zu einem funkelnden Bijou.
Brilliantly and excitingly played: Peter Donohoe’s Mendelssohn series gets off to a great start. The Rondo Capriccioso is a brilliant pianistic firework, full of tension, richness of sound and energy. The Fantasias also bear witness to Donohoe’s inspiration and imagination. That the Briton can also play poetically is confirmed by several of the songs without words.
In this all-around successful production, which also impresses with its warm and rich sound, Donohoe’s art of differentiation, his sensitive, nuanced and always wide awake touch, his outstanding technique and art of phrasing make each of the small compositions a glittery bijou.
