Neapel hat immer schon Musiker inspiriert. Der aus dieser italienischen Stadt stammende Pianist Genny Basso hat eigene Bearbeitungen neapolitanischer Lieder mit ortsbezogenen Stücken großer Komponisten aufgenommen. Das Album ist dem Pianisten Aldo Ciccolini gewidmet, der einer der prägenden Lehrer von Genny Basso war.
Im Programm gibt es virtuose aber auch langsamere Stücke, und auch wenn Basso immer wieder mit Virtuosität begeistert (etwa in der spritzigen Tarentella von Liszt) so sind es die stillen Momente, die ich am meisten schätze, etwa in Curtis’ Torna a Surriento, Tagliaferris Piscatore ‘e Pusilleco oder Cardillos Core ‘ngrato, die er wunderbar lyrisch, zart und stimmungsvoll spielt. Eine einfallsreiche und wie improvisatorisch wirkende Bearbeitung von Funiculi Funicula beschließt das attraktive Programm.
Naples has always inspired musicians. The pianist Genny Basso, a native of this Italian city, has recorded his own arrangements of Neapolitan songs with pieces by great composers from the region. The album is dedicated to the pianist Aldo Ciccolini, who was one of Genny Basso’s formative teachers. The program includes both virtuoso and slower pieces, and even though Basso impresses with his virtuosity (for example in the lively Tarentella by Liszt), it is the quiet moments that I appreciate the most, for example in Curtis’ Torna a Surriento, Tagliaferri’s Piscatore ‘e Pusilleco or Cardillo’s Core ‘ngrato, which he plays wonderfully lyrically, delicately and atmospherically. An imaginative and seemingly improvised arrangement of Funiculi Funicula closes the attractive program.
