Die amerikanische Sängerin Julia Bullock singt auf ihrem Album Walking in the Dark ein sehr verschiedenartiges Programm mit Stücken, in denen sie vom Klavier, in anderen vom Londoner Philharmonia Orchestra begleitet wird.
Das stilistisch und kulturell vielseitige Programm erlaubt es Bullock, ihre Stimme immer anzupassen und sie damit sehr facettenreich klingen zu lassen. Ein anderer, tiefer Eindruck kommt aus dem Ausdrucksreichtum und der Intensität des Gesangs. Da bleibt keine Phrase unerfüllt, es fehlt nirgends an den passenden Farben und Nuancen, an der Rhetorik, die den Text mit der Musik in Einklang und zur bestmöglichen Wirkung bringt, im Zarten wie im Leidenschaftlichen. Sie ist eine würdige Nachfolgerin von Jessye Norman, mit einer nicht ganz so feinen Stimme, aber mit noch etwas mehr Präsenz und Wahrhaftigkeit.
Julia Bullock wurde in St. Louis, Missouri, geboren. Ihren Bachelor erlangte sie an der Eastman School of Music. Ihren Masterabschluss erreichte sie an der New Yorker Juilliard School. Dort lernte sie auch ihren Ehemann, den Dirigenten Christian Reif kennen, mit dem sie nunmehr in München lebt. Sie ist erst 35 Jahre alt, aber sie hat sicherlich eine große Karriere vor sich. Ihr Solo- Debütalbum Walking In The Dark kann man nur wärmstens empfehlen.

The stylistically and culturally diverse program allows Bullock to always adapt her voice, making it sound very multifaceted. Another deep impression comes from the expressiveness and intensity of the singing. There is no phrase left unfulfilled, nowhere lacking the appropriate colors and nuances, the rhetoric that brings the text into harmony with the music and to the best possible effect, in the tender as in the passionate. She is a worthy successor to Jessye Norman, with a voice not quite as fine, but with even a bit more presence and truthfulness.
Julia Bullock was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She earned her bachelor’s degree at the Eastman School of Music. She earned her master’s degree at New York’s Juilliard School. There she also met her husband, conductor Christian Reif, with whom she now lives in Munich. She is only 35 years old, but she certainly has a great career ahead of her. Her solo debut album Walking In The Dark can only be warmly recommended.
