Paavo Järvi dirigiert eine sehr emotionale und eher breite gefasste Siebte Bruckner. Schon im ersten Satz wird Aufbruch mit betonter Schwermut und Wehmut gekontert. Er zeigt bewegend den zerknirschten und den im Schmerz erstarrenden Komponisten. Auch der langsame Satz wird sehr gefühlvoll und berührend gespielt. Glanz und Glorie gibt es dann im Scherzo, während im letzten Satz die Kontraste gut aufgebaut werden und das vom Komponisten gesteckte Ziel mit Kraft und Würde erreicht wird.
Das Tonhalle-Orchester spielt auf hohem Niveau, sehr ausgewogen im Klang, und die Tonaufnahme ist auch exzellent.
Paavo Järvi conducts a very emotional and rather broadly shaped Bruckner Seventh. Already in the first movement, any optimism is countered with accentuated melancholy. It movingly shows the composer contrite and frozen in pain. The slow movement is also played very sensitively and touchingly. There is then splendor and glory in the scherzo, while in the last movement the contrasts are well built up and the goal set by the composer is achieved with power and dignity.
The Tonhalle Orchestra plays at a high level, very balanced in sound, and the sound recording is also excellent.
