Nach seiner CD PanDEMiCity veröffentlicht der Pianist Josu de Solaun bei Aria Classics ein weiteres, auf freier Improvisation basierendes Album, das live beim Alicante Jazz Festival aufgenommen wurde. Das Album ist in fünf Blöcke unterteilt und enthält 14 Improvisationen.
De Solaun erklärt im Booklet, dass « ich jahrelang das verloren habe, was man meine magnetische Durchlässigkeit nennen könnte: die Fähigkeit eines Materials, etwas durch sich hindurchzulassen ». Er unterstreicht auch « die Bedeutung solcher magnetischen Kräfte » als eine Art Navigationskompasse, die seine musikalische Reise durch ein Rezital mit einem leeren Notensystem leiten, in das er sein ganzes « Magma der Erfahrung mit all seinen Rissen und Fehlern » gießt.
Es mag vorteilhaft sein, ein Konzert mit freien Improvisationen live zu erleben, weil man dann auch die visuelle Komponente, den Pianisten am Klavier, einbeziehen kann. Eine live aufgenommene CD mit Improvisationen kann ich mir eigentlich nur mit geschlossenen Augen anhören, um so dem Pianisten und seinem Improvisieren nahezukommen.
Und so erlebt man auf dieser Schallplatte garantiert eine großartige Musikstunde. De Solauns fantasievolles Improvisieren wird nie zum Leerlauf, es wirkt nie banal oder recherchiert. Die Musik fließt bei aller Komplexität sehr natürlich, erreicht aufgewühlte Momente ebenso wie solche von wunderbarer Poesie und Lyrismus. Aber selbst in dramatischeren Passagen bleibt das Spiel des Pianisten immer ästhetisch und delikat, auch dann wenn die Rhythmen mal ganz rockig werden.
Eine derart geistreiche und doch immer spontane Kreativität zeigt die eminente Größe dieses Künstlers, der über die Kunst des Improvisierens im Booklet einen höchst interessanten Text verfasst hat.
After his CD PanDEMiCity, pianist Josu de Solaun releases on Aria Classics another album based on free improvisation, recorded live at the Alicante Jazz Festival. The album is divided into five blocks and contains 14 improvisations.
De Solaun explains in the booklet that « for years I lost what you could call my magnetic permeability: the ability of a material to let something through it. » He also emphasizes « the importance of such magnetic forces, » a kind of « navigational compasses » that guide his musical journey through a recital without a score into which he pours all his « magma of experience, with all its cracks and flaws. »
It may be advantageous to experience a concert of free improvisations live, because then you can also include the visual component, the pianist at the piano. A live recorded CD with improvisations I can actually only listen to with my eyes closed, in order to get close to the pianist and his improvising.
And so, on this record, you are guaranteed to experience a great hour of music. De Solaun’s imaginative improvising never becomes idle, it never seems banal or researched. For all its complexity, the music flows very naturally, reaching agitated moments as well as those of wonderful poetry and lyricism. But even in more dramatic passages, the pianist’s playing always remains aesthetic and delicate, also when the rhythms get all rocky.
Such a witty and yet always spontaneous creativity shows the eminent greatness of this artist, who has written a most interesting text about the art of improvising in the booklet.
