The Russian Ministry of Culture has created a so-called coordination council, which will control musical theaters, concert organizations, and universities. The council’s president is the conduction Valery Gergiev.
Even if the office statement says that the council aims at harmonizing repertoire policy and touring activities as well as education projects, it is pretty obvious that the Council is first and foremost a new controlling body for Russian cultural life. Gergiev is thus becoming the new Putin of culture.
