When the Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theater was officially attached to the Mariinsky Theatre as Seaside branch, Valery Gergiev inherited a number of structural and juridical problems. This is reported by the Russian site Classical Music News.
On one hand, there are a number of creditors who ask to recover their money, on the other hand, the house is linked to some criminal cases, particularly abuse of official power in relation with the transfer of property. Furthermore this transfer of property led to the fact that the regional institution could not pay off debts, and the Mariinsky faces now claims of tens of creditors with an amount exceeding over 150 million rubles (€ 2,3 million).
