On Wednesday 16 September 2009, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean Asselborn, proceeded to the joint swearing-in ceremony of two Honorary Consuls of Luxembourg in the Russian Federation, Mr Valery Gergiev and Mr Vladimir Evtouchenkov. Gergiev was dismissed yesterday evening.
The official news release from the 16 September 2009 said: « Mr. Valery Gergiev, Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, will be appointed Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Saint Petersburg. A graduate of the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in Leningrad, Mr. Gergiev is currently the Principal Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. (…) Mr. Gergiev and Mr. Evtushenkov will be received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the St. Maximin building at 10:40 a.m. The ceremony will take place after a brief tête-à-tête. The swearing-in ceremony will be preceded by a welcome by the Prime Minister, Jean-Claude Juncker. »
