The Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège has announced the appointment of Italian conductor Giampaolo Bisanti as chief conductor from the 2022/2023 season. He succeeds to Speranza Scappucci (2017-2022).
Giampaolo Bisanti studied musical direction, clarinet, piano and composition at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in his native Milan. He then studied with Yuri Ahronovitch at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and with Donato Renzetti. In the course of his career, he won numerous international competitions, such as the Dimitri Mitropoulos Competition in Athens in 1998, the Franco Capuana Competition in Spoleto and the Ferencsik János Competition in Budapest.
Giampaolo Bisanti is currebntly Music Director of Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari (Italy).
