The Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy, France, has announced the appointment of Belgian-American conductor Giulio Cilona as First Guest Conductor from the 2024-2025 season.
Revealed as prize winner at the 2022 International Opera Conducting Competition at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, Cilona is also a pianist and composer. Currently he is Kapellmeister at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, He is a conducting fellow at the Dirigentenforum/Forum Dirigieren (Deutscher Musikrat) since 2021 and previously worked as a Kapellmeister at the Hannover.
Cilona completed his studies in orchestra conducting at the Mozarteum Universität Salzburg with Bruno Weil and was awarded the Bernhard-Paumgartner-Medal by the Stiftung Mozarteum in 2019, given yearly to one single exceptionally gifted student of the University.
