Der norwegische Pianist Vebjørn Anvik – er ist Mitglied im bekannten Grieg Trio – hat sich Zeit gelassen mit seiner ersten Solo-CD. Er ist jetzt 54 und spielt darauf Musik von Lasse Thoresen und Maurice Ravel. Obschon nicht derselben Zeit angehörend – Thoresen wurde 1949 geboren – hat die Klaviermusik beider Komponisten viele Gemeinsamkeiten.
Thoresens Naturbilder ‘Invocation of Pristine Light’, ‘Invocations of Rising Air’, ‘Invocations of Crystal Waters’ und ‘Stages of the Inner Dialogue’ teilen eine impressionistische Ausdruckskraft und viel strukturelle Klarheit. Und Anvik tut alles, um auch die Farben anzugleichen, wodurch sein Ravel etwas heller und schärfer wirkt, als bei manchen anderen Pianisten. Das geht für meinen Geschmack auf Kosten der Stimmungen und wirkt etwas kühl. Ravel in sternenklarer gleißender Frostnacht. Am Ende ist das gar nicht so uninteressant.

Although the composers belong to different periods – Thoresen was not born in 1949 – their music has common characteristics. Thoresen’s nature pictures Invocation of Pristine Light, Invocations of Rising Air, Invocations of Crystal Waters and Stages of the inner Dialogue share an impressionistic expressiveness and much structural clarity. Anvik does everything to adapt also the colours of his Ravel, and the French composer’s music, becomes brighter and sharper than with some other pianists. Ravel in starlit, frosty night. At the end that’s not uninteresting at all.
