The announcement of a musicians’ strike at the Gran Canaria Philharmonic for 16, 23 and 30 September and 7 October has prompted a strong reaction by the local government. The Minister of Culture of Gran Canaria, Carlos Ruiz, announced a month-long lockout for the musicians in case they would start their strike on  Friday. The Minister called the announced strike « illegal ».
