Schulchöre in England sind mehr als nur Schulchöre – es sind zum Teil hoch professionell geführte Ensembles, die sich weit über den Schulcampus hinaus einen Namen machen. Dazu gehört auch die Schola Cantorum of the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, die zum Beispiel schon in Aufnahmen von Harry-Potter-Filmen mitwirkte.
In ihrer jüngsten Produktion hat sich die Schola dem typisch britischen Repertoire verschrieben – eine Chorliteratur, die sich durch eleganten Pomp und Rückbesinnung auf Formen der Renaissance und des Barock auszeichnet. Diesen unterschiedlichen Stilrichtungen wird der Chor vollauf gerecht – sei es in dem feierlichen Great is the Lord von Edward Elgar, der barock verzierten Motette Jehova von Henry Purcell oder dem expressiven Rejoice the Lamb von Benjamin Britten.
School choirs in England are more than just school choirs – some of them are highly professional ensembles that have made a name for themselves far beyond the school campus. Among them is the Schola Cantorum of the Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School, which has performed in recordings of Harry Potter films, for example.
In its latest production, the Schola has devoted itself to typically British repertoire – choral literature characterized by elegant pomp and a return to Renaissance and Baroque forms. The choir does full justice to these diverse styles – whether in the solemn Great is the Lord by Edward Elgar, the Baroque-ornamented motet Jehovah by Henry Purcell, or the expressive Rejoice the Lamb by Benjamin Britten.
