Tarisio, a web-based auction house specializing in stringed instruments and bows has announced the sale of the Sinzheimer Guadagnini violin for £1,587,000 (€1,8 million) – the highest price ever paid at an auction for an instrument by this maker.
The violin, made during Guadagnini’s Turin period, was originally listed for interest between £500,000–700,000. The instrument came with a 1937 certification from expert Fridolin Hamma saying the violin had at one period been played by violinist Carl Flesch.
