Liedgesang mit Mikrophonen aufzunehmen ist ein nicht ganz einfaches Unterfangen. Die richtige Balance zu erzielen, haben schon manche Tonmeister nicht geschafft, und auch bei dieser CD wurde kein befriedigendes Resultat erzielt. Das Klavier steht im hinteren Teil des Klangbilds, aber statt fein und klar klingt es mulmig und immer wieder zu laut. Das beeinträchtigt das Spiel des Pianisten und noch mehr den Gesang der deutschen Sopranistin Dorothea Herbert. Der Stimme fehlt es an Relief und Präsenz, was sicher nicht der Künstlerin angelastet werden kann. Sie verfügt über eine warme und doch kraftvoll projizierte Stimme, die sensibel auf jedes Lied eingeht und technisch mit feiner, geschmeidiger Vokallinie überzeugt. Der Pianist ist gestalterisch konstruktiv dabei.
Recording lieder with microphones is not an easy task. Achieving the right balance is something many a sound engineer has failed to do, and this CD did not achieve a satisfactory result either. The piano is in the back, but instead of sounding fine and clear, it sounds mulish and repeatedly too loud. This disadvantages the pianist’s playing and even more the singing of German soprano Dorothea Herbert. The voice lacks relief and presence, which certainly cannot be blamed on the artist. She has a warm yet powerfully projected voice that is sensitive to each song and technically convincing with fine, supple vocal lines. The pianist is creatively constructive.
