Die CD Legacy versucht, die beiden Cellokonzerte von Joseph Haydn einerseits als Erbe der italienischen Tradition zu sehen, hier vertreten durch zwei Werke von Nicola Porpora, andererseits im Spiegel von Gluck und Mozart. Der Cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca trifft immer den richtigen Ton und bringt eine Menge an italienischem Brio und warmen Farben in die beiden Konzerte ein. Zusammen mit Julien Chauvin und Le Concert de la Loge gelingt ihm so eine aufregende und immer stilsichere Interpretation der beiden Konzerte. Auf historischen Instrumenten gespielt gewinnen beide Konzerte an Relief und dramatischer Präsenz.
Durchaus ernst zu nehmen sind auch die vier anderen Stücke. Vor allem Porporas Largo aus dem Cellokonzert in G-Dur und die Arie Glusto amor, tu che m´accendi aus der Kantate Gli Orti Esperdi, gesungen von dem wunderbaren Philippe Jaroussky machen Lust darauf, mehr von diesem Komponisten zu entdecken. Robert Levins Rekonstruktion eines Fragments für eine Sinfonia concertante für Violine, Bratsche und Cello von W. A. Mozart ist ebenso willkommen wie der Reigen seliger Geister aus der Oper Orphée et Eurydice.
Legacy ist demnach eine vollgepackte CD mit zwei großartigen Cellokonzerten und zum Teil unbekannten Kostbarkeiten. La Marca erweist sich als eine virtuoser Meister allererster Güte und ein ebenso intelligenter wie brillanter Virtuose und Gestalter. Exzellent auch seine Mitstreiter Julien Chauvin, Adrien La Marca, Philippe Jaroussky, und das herrliche Barockorchester Le Concert de la Loge. Empfehlenswert!
The CD Legacy tries to see the two cello concertos by Joseph Haydn on the one hand as a heritage of the Italian tradition, here represented by two works by Nicola Porpora, and on the other hand in the mirror of Gluck and Mozart. Cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca always hits the right note and brings a lot of Italian brio and warm colors to the two concertos. Together with Julien Chauvin and Le Concert de la Loge, he thus succeeds in an exciting and always stylish interpretation of the two concertos. Played on period instruments, both concertos gain in relief and dramatic presence.
The four other pieces are also to be taken seriously. Especially Porpora’s Largo from the Cello Concerto in G major and the aria Glusto amor, tu che m’accendi from the cantata Gli Orti Esperdi, sung by the wonderful Philippe Jaroussky, make one want to discover more of this composer. Robert Levin’s reconstruction of a fragment for a Sinfonia concertante for violin, viola and cello by W. A. Mozart is welcome, as is the Reigen seliger Geister from the opera Orphée et Eurydice.
Legacy is thus a packed CD with two great cello concertos and some unknown treasures. La Marca proves to be a virtuoso master of the very first order and an equally intelligent and brilliant virtuoso and shaper. Also excellent are his fellow performers Julien Chauvin, Adrien La Marca, Philippe Jaroussky and the magnificent baroque orchestra Le Concert de la Loge. Recommendable!
