Christophe Rousset hat mit den Talens Lyriques die erste vollständige Aufnahme des Ballet Royal de la Naissance de Vénus von Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) für Aparté gemacht. Der Komponist hat es 1665 für König Ludwig XIV. geschaffen, der es für seine Schwägerin Henrietta of England bestellt hatte (die auch die Rolle der Venus übernehmen sollte).
Lully hat sein ganzes Können in dieses Werk investiert. Es erzählt die Geschichte vom Eintritt der Göttin der Liebe und der Jugend in die Welt. Das Ballett beginnt mit Vénus, die auf einem Thron aus Perlmutt aus dem Meer geboren wird, umgeben von Meeresnymphen und gefeiert von den Gottheiten Thetis und Peleus, sowie von einem Chor von Tritonen. Auch mythische Paare wie Apollo & Daphne, Ariadne & Bacchus, Proserpina & Pluto sowie Orpheus & Eurydike treten in dem Ballett auf.
Die Suite besteht aus zwölf Teilen, die Tanz, Instrumentalmusik, Solo- und Chorgesang miteinander verbinden. Ergänzt wird das Stück auf dieser CD durch Auszüge aus den Amours Déguisés, Psyché, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme und Carnaval.

Christophe Rousset and Talens Lyriques have made the first complete recording of Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Ballet Royal de la Naissance de Vénus for Aparté. The composer created it in 1665 for King Louis XIV, who had ordered it for his sister-in-law Henrietta of England (who was also to play the role of Venus).
Lully put all his skill into this work. It tells the story of the entry of the goddess of love and youth into the world. The ballet opens with Vénus being born from the sea on a throne of mother-of-pearl, surrounded by sea nymphs and celebrated by the deities Thetis and Peleus, as well as by a chorus of tritons. Mythical couples such as Apollo & Daphne, Ariadne & Bacchus, Proserpina & Pluto, and Orpheus & Eurydice also appear in the ballet.
The suite consists of twelve parts combining dance, instrumental music, solo and choral singing. The piece is complemented on this CD by excerpts from Amours Déguisés, Psyché, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, and Carnaval.
