The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season with a tour of eight concert halls in five European countries. Under its chief conductor Jaap van Zweden, it presents a program with the First Symphonies by Johannes Brahms and Gustav Mahler and the Ninth Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich. The French pianist Alexandre Kantorow is the soloist. HK Phil is in Dresden (Kulturpalast) on February 24, Zurich (Tonhalle) on February 26, Toulouse (Halle aux Grains) on February 28, Aix-En-Provence (Grand Théâtre) on February 29, Rotterdam (De Doelen) on February 2 and 3, Basel (Stadtcasale) on February 2. 3, Basel (Stadtcasino) on 3.3 and Rome (Sala Santa Cecilia) on 5.3. The major European tour will conclude in Brussels (Bozar) at the opening concert of the Klara Festival on 8.3.
Jaap van Zweden has been chief conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra since 2012. He is also Chief Conductor of the New York Philharmonic and, from January 2024, also Chief Conductor of the Seoul Philharmonic.
