Both, the Houston Symphony and the Houston Grand Opera are still not fully operational after the damages which hurricane Harvey caused to their homes. According to a message from the Grand Opera, the Wortham Theater Center is more damaged than previously thought. Houston Grand Opera will proceed with the first two operas, La Traviata and Julius Caesar, in the fall « and we are actively working out new locations for these performances. We will announce the details as soon as they are confirmed. »
The Houston Symphony had to cancel several performances scheduled for September, including the Opening Night on September 9 with Susan Graham and Fiesta Sinfónica on September 10.
Jones Hall’s condition permitting, it is the Houston Symphony’s intention to begin the 2017-18 season Thursday, September 14, with Music Director Andrés Orozco-Estrada conducting the Houston Symphony and Chorus.
