Huang Yi
Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of Huang Yi, 31, as Music Director. He takes over from Long Yu who has been the orchestra’s conductor since 2003.
Since first appearing as a guest conductor with the orchestra in 2012, he has built up a close artistic relationship with both the musicians and the management team of Guangzhou Symphony. Already the Principal Conductor of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, Chief Conductor of the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Kunming Nie’er Symphony Orchestra, Huang Yi will take up his new position at the beginning of the 2023/24 season for an initial term of five years.
