Fourteen minutes of applause welcomed Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in its original version which opened the season of the Teatro alla Scala yesterday evening in Milan. There were a rain of flowers from the gallery, an ovation for Chailly and the soprano Maria Jose Siri, warm applause to all the company of singers and applause also for the stage director Alvis Hermanis.
