Hungarian Composer Sándor Szokolay died on December 8, his family said yesterday. Szokolay was a professor of the Liszt Ferenc Academy, Budapest. He was 82 years old.
Between 1957 and 1961 he worked at the Hungarian Radio music department. Between 1959-94 he taught at the Liszt Academy. Though he composed in different genres, his major works are operas and vocal music.
His opera ‘Noces de sang’ from 1962, with a libretto by Garcia Lorca, is well known, as is ‘Ecce Homo’ (1984).
