György Pauk has passed away at the age of 88. The London-based violinist worked until his death, giving a masterclass at the Budapest Liszt Academy in early November.
Pauk was a student, among others, of Leó Weiner and Zoltán Kodály. From 1952 he gave concerts. In 1956, he left the communist Hungary. He first lived in the Netherlands and then, at the instigation of Yehudi Menuhin, settled in London in 1961.
His international solo career took off after working with Georg Solti. In the 1980s, he began teaching in London. He retired from performing in 2007.
