Swedish composer Jacob Mühlrad (*1991) is behind what has been described as the world’s first joint performance by a symphony orchestra and a robot playing the cello. The robot and the accompanying Malmö Symphony Orchestra played Mühlrad’s piece named Veer. The cello-playing robot was developed by composer and robot creator Fredrik Gran.
Jacob Mühlrad has been commissioned and performed by the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Radio France, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Bamberger Symphoniker and WDR Rundfunkchor Cologne. He has worked closely with musicians and composers such as Olga Neuwirth, Martin Fröst, Pablo Heras-Casado and Matthias Pinscher.
His inventive and emotionally resonant compositions seamlessly blend his Jewish heritage with avant-garde musical exploration, as well as other musical traditions, often with religious connections.
