German conductor Jun Märkl has been named Music Director for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, effective September 1, 2024, which marks the beginning of the 2024–25 season. Prior to that, Maestro Märkl will make his debut as music director designate conducting The Music of Strauss on January 26–27, 2024, at Hilbert Circle Theatre amid a week of celebrations.
Märkl has served as the ISO’s artistic advisor since 2021 when Krzysztof Urbanski ended his tenure.
From the 2025/26 season, the German-Japanese conductor Jun Märkl, 64, will be the new chief conductor of the Residentie Orkest, in Den Haag.
